GWM’s electric vehicle brand Ora has expanded its lineup in China with the launch of the Ora 5 GT and Ora 5 Sport, adding new variants to the Ora 5 model family. Both vehicles are available with battery-electric, hybrid and gasoline powertrains, giving buyers multiple options in China’s highly competitive mass-market vehicle segment.
The Ora 5 Sport is available in seven variants, with official prices ranging from 81,800 yuan ($12,060) to 135,800 yuan. Limited-time prices range from 71,800 yuan ($10,590) to 125,800 yuan.
The Ora 5 GT comes in six variants, with official prices ranging from 99,800 yuan to 143,800 yuan. Limited-time prices range from 89,800 yuan to 133,800 yuan.
Ora 5 Sport and GT Powertrain Options
Unlike Ora’s original positioning as an all-electric brand, both the Ora 5 Sport and Ora 5 GT are offered with BEV, hybrid and gasoline powertrains.
Ora was established in 2018 as GWM’s dedicated all-electric brand, initially focusing on smaller EVs priced below 100,000 yuan. The broader powertrain strategy reflects the approach of Chinese automakers seeking to address different customer requirements amid intense competition and price pressure.
GWM’s Global One platform allows a single model architecture to accommodate three different powertrain types.
Ora 5 Sport Dimensions
The Ora 5 Sport measures 4,482 mm in length, 1,833 mm in width and 1,559 mm in height. It has a 2,720 mm wheelbase.
The model is positioned as the more stylish urban-oriented member of the lineup, emphasizing everyday usability and design.
Ora 5 GT Dimensions and Design
The Ora 5 GT has different dimensions depending on its powertrain. The gasoline and hybrid versions measure 4,500 mm in length, while the electric version is 4,430 mm long.
The GT is positioned as the more performance-oriented model, featuring a low-slung stance, aerodynamic body kit, 19-inch wheels and a large rear wing.
GWM says the electric GT can generate 37 kg of downforce at 180 km/h.
The electric version also features a red trigger button for activating Super Sport mode and a system designed to simulate the sound of a V8 engine.
Electric Powertrain and Battery
The electric versions of both models use Svolt Energy’s 14-in-1 electric drive system and second-generation short-blade batteries.
The electric motor produces a maximum output of 150 kW and peak torque of 260 Nm. The battery pack has a capacity of 58.3 kWh.
The Ora 5 Sport electric version offers a CLTC range of 580 km, while the electric Ora 5 GT has a 550 km CLTC range.
Both electric models have energy consumption of 11.6 kWh per 100 km, can charge from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds.
Hybrid Powertrain
The hybrid versions use GWM’s fifth-generation Hi2 intelligent hybrid system.
The system produces a combined maximum power output of 166 kW and peak torque of 476 Nm.
Fuel consumption is rated at 4.5 liters per 100 km under WLTC testing.
Gasoline Powertrain
The gasoline versions are powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with a third-generation wet 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The powertrain produces a maximum output of 135 kW and has a claimed WLTC fuel consumption of 6.4 liters per 100 km.
Driver-Assistance Technology
Higher-priced versions of both the Ora 5 Sport and Ora 5 GT are equipped with LiDAR and GWM’s Coffee Pilot 3 assisted-driving platform.
The system supports highway and urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) without relying on high-definition maps.
It also supports cross-floor memory parking over routes of up to 3 kilometers, adding automated parking functionality to the vehicle’s intelligent driving package.
Interior and Smart Cockpit
Both models feature a 15.6-inch 2.5K floating central touchscreen.
The cabin uses a 4-nanometer automotive-grade chip with 20 TOPS of computing power. For voice interaction, the vehicles integrate GWM’s Coffee GPT large language model.
The combination of a large central display, dedicated automotive computing hardware and AI-based voice interaction reflects the growing importance of smart cockpit technology in China’s automotive market.
Ora 5 Model Family
The Ora 5 GT and Ora 5 Sport are based on the Ora 5, which was launched in December last year.
The Ora 5 represented the brand’s first all-new model in more than two years and entered a competitive segment alongside vehicles such as the BYD Yuan Plus and Leapmotor B10.
The addition of the GT and Sport versions expands the model family’s appeal by offering different styling orientations and three powertrain choices.
