German premium manufacturer, BMW seems increasingly aware that the future of the world’s automotive industry will depend on electric technology.
BMW is preparing a new platform under the name Neu Klasse which is projected as the main base of the BMW 3 Series EV while strengthening its position in the development of electric cars.
In an interview with Automotive News recently, BMW CEO, Oliver Zipse has confirmed that this platform will be introduced in 2025. In the development of the Neu Klasse platform, BMW’s architecture will focus on becoming a platform that supports the middle segment of BMW.

Zipse also explained that this platform will begin to be developed at a new BMW factory in Hungary. The factory is devoted to the development and production of electric cars. Zipse also said that this platform is really only used specifically for electric cars and is not offered to cars still using conventional combustion engines.
“What you need to know, later when entering the market, the Neu Klasse platform will be concentrated with the 3 Series segment and cars that enter the BMW middle segment,” said Zipse. He also revealed that although the Neu Klasse platform will focus on the middle segment, BMW will also expand its use to several other class segments.

Automotive News also reports that several high-performance models, as well as some volume maker cars, have the potential to use the new platform in the future. And as its first product, BMW will choose the 3 Series with EV technology as the initial model for using the latest platform.
What should be noted, the BMW 3 Series EV is very different from the Chinese version of the BMW i3 which was launched recently. Because if the Chinese version of the BMW i3 is an electric version of the current BMW 3 G20, later the BMW 3 Series with the Neu Klasse platform will be completely different and may become the newest generation.
