Porsche has introduced the Porsche Cayman GT4 ePerformance as a prototype for its newest electric racing car (16/5).
Based on the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, this electric racing car was presented to test the electric drive technology embedded in the Porsche Mission R.
Recalling Mission R, it is Porsche’s future electric racing car which was introduced at the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA) Mobility event in Munich, Germany 2021 ago.
“With Mission R, we demonstrate Porsche’s vision of realizing the future of eco-car racing,” said Matthias Scholz, Project Manager of Porsche’s GT Racing Vehicle.
“Now the 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance demonstrates that this vision works satisfactorily on the race track,” added Scholz.
Like the Mission R, the 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance gets two electric motors driving the front and rear wheels.
The two prototype electric motors are claimed to be able to produce a sadistic combination of 800 kW or 1,088 hp in qualifying mode.
But in race mode, the power of the two electric motors can be pegged to only 680 hp. Porsche says the 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance can match the lap times and top speed of the 911 GT3 Cup.
Regarding the battery, the 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance has a Lithium-ion battery with 900 volt technology. This racing electric car battery is claimed to be able to be charged from 5 percent to 80 percent in just 15 minutes.
Porsche did not mention the battery capacity of the 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance, but for reference, the Mission R battery has a capacity of 80 kWh.
Porsche plans to introduce the 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 23-26, 2022.
The introduction was followed by a tour of the Porsche factory in Leipzig on 20 August 2022.
