Leapmotor has entered the Indonesian electric vehicle (EV) market and begun local vehicle assembly, expanding its manufacturing presence in Southeast Asia through a partnership with Indonesia’s Indomobil Group.
The Stellantis-backed Chinese automaker announced the move during the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2026), where it showcased its B10 and C10 global models.
Local Production Begins
Leapmotor said local knock-down (KD) assembly will be carried out by PT National Assemblers, a subsidiary of Indomobil Group.
The assembly plant began operations in April, with deliveries of the locally assembled B10 and C10 expected to begin in August.
With production facilities now operating in both Malaysia and Indonesia, Leapmotor said it has established two KD manufacturing bases in Southeast Asia.
The company noted that local production can reduce import costs in Indonesia and improve eligibility for government incentives supporting electric vehicles.
Sales Network Expansion
Leapmotor’s vehicles will be sold through the Stellantis Brand House retail model alongside brands including Jeep and CitroĂ«n.
PT Indomobil National Distributor will oversee vehicle sales and dealer network development.
The company plans to establish 50 sales and service outlets across Indonesia by the end of 2026, leveraging Indomobil’s nationwide automotive distribution network.
Global Expansion Strategy
The B10 and C10 are among Leapmotor’s global strategic models as the company continues expanding outside China.
Leapmotor said it now operates in more than 40 countries through over 2,000 sales outlets, with cumulative global deliveries exceeding 1.5 million vehicles.
The automaker plans to introduce one new model each year in Indonesia and neighboring Southeast Asian markets.
The Indonesian expansion builds on Leapmotor’s partnership with Stellantis, which invested in the company in 2023 and established a joint venture responsible for international exports and sales outside China.
Overseas Sales Continue to Grow
Leapmotor previously said overseas markets are expected to account for between 20% and 35% of total deliveries, with international sales approaching 30% during the first half of 2026.
Senior Vice President Xu Jun has said rising fuel prices and evolving international policies are supporting global EV adoption.
The company reaffirmed its target of delivering one million vehicles in 2026.
Leapmotor delivered 356,487 vehicles during the first half of the year, a 60.8% increase from a year earlier, including 93,376 deliveries in June.
To achieve its full-year target, the company would need to deliver approximately 643,500 additional vehicles during the second half of the year, averaging more than 107,000 vehicles per month.
