Nissan has launched the LEAF NISMO in Japan, adding a performance-oriented variant to the third-generation LEAF electric vehicle lineup.
The model went on sale in Japan following the introduction of the redesigned third-generation LEAF earlier this year. Nissan said the LEAF has recorded cumulative global sales of approximately 700,000 units since the first generation was introduced in 2010.
Performance-Oriented Chassis and Driving Updates
The LEAF NISMO features chassis modifications developed by Nissan’s NISMO division, including revised suspension springs, stabilizers and suspension bushings aimed at improving steering response and handling.
The vehicle is equipped with swing valve shock absorbers, 19-inch aluminum wheels supplied by Enkei and Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires.
Nissan has also recalibrated the Standard, ECO and Sport drive modes for the NISMO model. The Sport setting has been renamed “NISMO Mode,” while the regenerative braking system receives revised tuning with four selectable levels of deceleration.
Exterior Receives Aerodynamic Revisions
Compared with the standard LEAF, the NISMO version includes redesigned front and rear bumpers, side trim and an extended rear spoiler.
According to Nissan, the exterior modifications are intended to improve aerodynamic performance while maintaining the vehicle’s overall efficiency.
The model also features gloss-black exterior mirrors with red accents and is offered in six body colors, including two versions of NISMO Stealth Gray available exclusively for NISMO models.
Interior Includes Model-Specific Features
Inside, the LEAF NISMO adopts a black interior with red accents and several NISMO-specific design elements.
The steering wheel is trimmed in TailorFit synthetic leather with red stitching and a center marker, while the front seats feature embroidered NISMO logos and RECARO sport seats with power reclining adjustment.
Additional model-specific details include revised instrument panel trim, a dedicated power meter display and NISMO branding throughout the cabin.
The LEAF NISMO is based on Nissan’s latest electric vehicle platform and retains the dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain introduced with the third-generation LEAF. Nissan said the model forms part of its NISMO road car lineup, which combines performance-focused engineering with production vehicle platforms.
