Skoda Auto has started series production of its new all-electric Epiq at the Volkswagen Navarra plant in Pamplona, Spain, marking a significant milestone in the Czech automaker’s electrification strategy and its collaboration within Volkswagen Group’s Brand Group Core (BGC).
The Epiq becomes the first Skoda model ever manufactured in Spain and the second vehicle in the company’s current European lineup to be produced outside the Czech Republic. The move allows Skoda to preserve production capacity at its domestic plants while expanding its electric vehicle portfolio in the fast-growing entry-level EV segment.
First Skoda Built on the MEB+ Platform
The Epiq is the first Skoda model based on Volkswagen Group’s new MEB+ electric vehicle architecture and the first to fully adopt the company’s Modern Solid design language.
Positioned as the brand’s most affordable electric vehicle, the Epiq is expected to be priced at around €26,000, making it an important model in Skoda’s effort to broaden EV accessibility across Europe.
“Launching production of the new Skoda Epiq is a historic moment. With the momentum of Brand Group Core behind it, we’re making fully electric driving more reachable than ever – great value for money, designed for real life, and ready to welcome new customers, including those who want something a step above,” said Klaus Zellmer, Chief Executive Officer of Skoda Auto.
“Over the past years, Enyaq and Elroq have reached record sales across Europe – proof that progress can be both inspiring and accessible.”
Part of Volkswagen Group’s Electric Urban Car Family
The Epiq forms part of Volkswagen Group’s Electric Urban Car Family, a multi-brand initiative aimed at bringing affordable electric mobility to European consumers.
The vehicle will be produced alongside other compact electric models within the programme, including the CUPRA Raval, Volkswagen ID. Polo, and Volkswagen ID. Cross. The strategy is designed to maximize economies of scale and share development and manufacturing costs across brands.
According to Skoda, manufacturing the Epiq in Spain allows the company to leverage Volkswagen Group synergies while maintaining competitive pricing and technological capabilities.
Spain Expands Role in Volkswagen’s EV Strategy
Production will take place at the Volkswagen Navarra facility near Pamplona, one of the group’s major manufacturing sites in Europe.
Established in 1965 and part of Volkswagen Group since 1984, the plant has produced more than 10 million vehicles and currently employs nearly 5,000 workers. The facility builds more than 1,400 vehicles per day and has traditionally manufactured combustion-engine models such as the Volkswagen Taigo and T-Cross.
The addition of the Epiq marks the plant’s transition into electric vehicle production, with the Volkswagen ID. Cross also expected to join the assembly lines in the future.
“The Epiq is the first Skoda model ever to be produced in Spain. This step highlights the strength and adaptability of our production network,” said Andreas Dick, Skoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics.
“By efficiently balancing capacity across the Volkswagen Group, we can support the ramp-up of key electric models while maintaining high production quality and competitive costs – all of which directly benefit our customers.”
Compact EV Targets Mass-Market Buyers
The Epiq made its world debut on May 19 in Zurich, Switzerland. Despite its compact dimensions, the model offers a spacious interior enabled by the dedicated electric vehicle architecture.
Customers will be able to choose from multiple battery and powertrain configurations, with outputs ranging from 85 kW to 155 kW. Skoda estimates a maximum driving range of approximately 440 kilometers on a single charge.
The vehicle also incorporates a range of advanced driver assistance and safety technologies typically found in larger vehicle segments.
Key Model for Skoda’s EV Expansion
The Epiq is expected to play a central role in Skoda’s electrification roadmap alongside the upcoming Peaq model. Together, the two vehicles will help the manufacturer significantly expand its electric lineup as demand for affordable EVs grows across Europe.
By combining localized production, shared Volkswagen Group technology, and entry-level pricing, the Epiq represents a strategic effort to attract new EV buyers while strengthening Skoda’s position in the increasingly competitive European electric vehicle market.
