Vodafone Business and Geely Technology Europe (GTEU) have expanded their vehicle connectivity partnership to support a broader range of digital services across Geely’s growing European vehicle portfolio.
The enhanced collaboration adds Internet in the Car, Mobile Private Networks and Cloud Connect services to an existing agreement that already provides Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity for vehicle diagnostics and over-the-air software updates.
The companies said the expanded platform is designed to support connected vehicle functions, digital services and software-driven vehicle development across European markets.
Expanding Connected Vehicle Capabilities
Under the new arrangement, Vodafone Business will provide in-vehicle internet access across more than 30 countries, enabling infotainment services and other connected applications.
The Cloud Connect service will facilitate secure communication between vehicles and cloud-based systems, while Mobile Private Networks are intended to support data connectivity requirements across Geely’s operations.
The connectivity platform also supports services such as Zeekr Navigation, which relies on continuous network connections to gather real-time customer feedback and assist with software development and deployment.
Supporting Software-Defined Vehicles
Geely Technology Europe, the European research and development arm of Geely Auto Group, develops vehicle architectures and digital platforms that increasingly rely on connectivity and cloud-based services.
According to the companies, connected infrastructure enables features such as dynamic electric vehicle charging route planning, advanced navigation functions and software updates delivered remotely.
The partnership reflects broader industry trends toward software-defined vehicles, where functionality can be enhanced and updated throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle.
“We’ve moved beyond simple transport solutions,” said Giovanni Lanfranchi, chief executive of Geely Technology Europe.
“Today, vehicles can be continuously improved through software, with data and connectivity enabling a more responsive and personalised user experience over time.”
Growing Demand for Vehicle Connectivity
The companies noted that connected vehicle adoption continues to increase globally as automakers expand digital services and software capabilities.
Industry forecasts cited by the partners suggest that more than 98% of new passenger vehicles sold by 2030 will incorporate connected vehicle technologies.
Vodafone said its IoT platform currently supports more than 240 million connected devices worldwide, including automotive applications.
“As the adoption rate of electric vehicles continues to grow, the opportunities to enhance their safety, efficiency and the user experience through digital connectivity are significant,” said Fanan Henriques, product and international business director at Vodafone Business.
“We’re supporting Geely’s growth in vehicle sales across Europe and its operations with a secure, multi-service digital infrastructure.”
Focus on European Growth
The agreement comes as Geely continues expanding its presence in Europe through brands including Zeekr and other connected vehicle offerings.
The companies said the enhanced connectivity framework is intended to provide a foundation for future digital services while supporting the increasing role of software, cloud computing and data connectivity in modern vehicles.
