Volkswagen has launched the new ID. UNYX 07 electric sedan and the updated ID. UNYX 06 sport utility vehicle in China as the automaker seeks to strengthen its position in the country’s highly competitive electric vehicle market.
Both models, produced by Volkswagen Anhui, officially went on sale on Saturday.
The ID. UNYX 07 sedan starts at 109,900 yuan ($16,170) after limited-time promotional incentives for orders placed before June 1, compared with a suggested retail price of 129,900 yuan.
The updated ID. UNYX 06 SUV has a suggested retail price starting at 149,900 yuan, with temporary discounts lowering the entry price to 134,900 yuan.
The ID. UNYX 07 is Volkswagen’s first battery-electric vehicle equipped with the China Electronic Architecture (CEA), an electrical and electronic system jointly developed by Volkswagen and Xpeng specifically for the Chinese market.
According to Volkswagen, the architecture introduces centralized computing and zonal control technology into mass production, forming part of the company’s broader push into advanced vehicle software development.
The sedan is slightly larger than the Tesla Model 3 and uses a 60-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by Gotion High-tech.
Powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 170 kilowatts, or 228 horsepower, the model offers a maximum driving range of 558 kilometers under China’s CLTC testing standard.
Volkswagen said smart technology is a key focus of the new models. Both vehicles come equipped with a smart cockpit system featuring four interconnected displays and a highway navigation-on-autopilot function based on a vision-only system.
The automaker plans to introduce a higher-end version equipped with LiDAR sensors later this year to support urban navigation-on-autopilot capabilities in more complex traffic environments.
The updated ID. UNYX 06 SUV also receives upgrades to interior design, digital functions and driving range. It uses the same 170-kW rear motor setup and offers a range of up to 528 kilometers after battery upgrades.
Volkswagen Anhui was established in 2017 as a joint venture between Volkswagen and JAC Motors focused on new energy vehicles. Volkswagen increased its stake in the venture to 75% in late 2020 and renamed the company Volkswagen Anhui.
The company launched its first model, the ID. UNYX electric compact coupe SUV, in July 2024. The ID. UNYX 06 replaced the original model in April 2025.
Volkswagen Anhui said the latest launches form part of its broader 2026 product strategy, which also includes plans to introduce a new flagship sedan in the fourth quarter of this year.
