Mahindra & Mahindra’s charging arm Charge_iN has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure across India, leveraging the oil major’s extensive fuel station network.
Under the agreement, the partners plan to install high-power charging systems featuring 180 kW dual-gun technology at HPCL sites. The rollout will utilise HPCL’s network of more than 24,400 fuel stations to accelerate deployment of public EV charging infrastructure across urban areas and key transport corridors.
The companies said the collaboration is designed to “enhance EV users’ experience and accelerate EV adoption in India,” adding that it forms part of broader efforts to build “a comprehensive EV ecosystem” and provide “an important foundation for realising the goal of widespread electric vehicle adoption.”
HPCL already operates more than 5,400 EV charging points under its HP e-Charge brand, providing an existing base for further expansion. The company has been scaling its presence in alternative energy and electric mobility, including charging and battery swapping infrastructure.
The use of existing fuel retail locations is expected to enable faster rollout and wider coverage, particularly along highways where demand for fast charging is increasing.
Charge_iN by Mahindra said the initiative aligns with its strategy to develop an ultrafast charging network to support the growth of electric passenger vehicles in India.
