Bosch Engineering has introduced a new 800-volt electric drive system designed for heavy-duty intralogistics machinery, aiming to support the electrification of forklifts, terminal tractors and port transport vehicles.
The system will be presented at the LogiMAT 2026, taking place in Stuttgart from March 24 to 26, where the company is showcasing its latest developments in electrified powertrains for industrial applications.
The new solution combines the SMG230 electric motor with a silicon carbide-based inverter, supporting system voltages between 400 and 850 volts. The motor delivers a continuous output of 188 kW and around 250 Nm of torque, with peak torque reaching up to 550 Nm for short durations.
Bosch Engineering said the transition to 800-volt technology enables higher power density and improved efficiency compared with conventional 400-volt systems. “The new motor delivers up to 80 kilowatts more power than a comparable 400-volt machine with identical weight or, with the same level of performance, boasts more compact dimensions and a much lower weight,” the company said. It added that silicon carbide semiconductors allow faster switching and reduce energy losses in the form of heat.
The inverter system is expected to achieve an efficiency of over 99%, while safety and diagnostic features are based on automotive standards adapted for industrial use. The company said this approach is intended to ensure “high robustness, reliability and durability.”
Philipp Kurek, responsible for off-highway and maritime solutions at Bosch Engineering, said the system is designed to meet a wide range of use cases. “Our powerful new electrification solution combines high power density, compact dimensions, and optimum efficiency. Its impressive flexibility makes it the perfect choice for the electrification of all types of intralogistics machines in heavy-duty operation,” he said.
The compact design is also intended to simplify integration into existing machinery, including retrofit applications. Bosch Engineering said the powertrain can be combined with components from Bosch Rexroth, including the eGFV9120 coaxial gearbox and the Collision Avoidance System based on the BODAS operating platform.
