Ionity has opened two new high-power charging sites in Scotland, expanding its regional network to 12 locations as it targets improved electric vehicle access in remote areas.
The new hubs, located in Fort William and Inverness, offer charging capacities of up to 400 kW and are positioned along key transport routes to support both long-distance travel and local usage.
The Fort William site is situated near Ben Nevis, making it strategically positioned to serve tourism traffic in the Highlands. Ionity said the location is intended to enable electric vehicle drivers to travel through the region with greater confidence.
Meanwhile, the Inverness site in the Inshes area is designed to accommodate commuter and regional demand. The project has also included educational engagement with Inshes Primary School, where sessions were held to introduce pupils to electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.
Andreas Atkins said the expansion marks an important step in strengthening high-power charging coverage across the Highlands and improving convenience for EV users.
Meg Snedden said the proximity of the charging site provides a practical learning opportunity for students and helps raise awareness of sustainable transport technologies.
Ionity’s latest expansion reflects broader efforts to enhance charging infrastructure in less densely populated regions, supporting the adoption of electric vehicles across the United Kingdom.
