SAIC-GM-Wuling has launched the fifth-generation Hongguang Mini EV, aiming to reinforce its position in China’s highly competitive entry-level electric vehicle market.
The updated Hongguang Mini EV is priced between 42,800 yuan ($6,190) and 51,800 yuan after trade-in subsidies, as the company seeks to maintain its dominance against rivals including Geely Panda and Changan Lumin.
The new model retains its four-door, four-seat layout and compact dimensions, measuring 3,268 mm in length with a 2,190 mm wheelbase. It is powered by a 30 kW electric motor, delivering a top speed of 100 km/h, suitable for urban commuting.
The vehicle is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery, offering two range options of 205 km and 301 km under CLTC standards. Fast-charging capability allows the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in around 35 minutes.
Wuling has introduced a series of upgrades to the model’s design and interior, including a 10.1-inch central touchscreen. The system is expected to support smartphone connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay, Huawei HiCar and CarLink.
The Hongguang Mini EV series has played a significant role in expanding EV adoption in China’s mass market, particularly among first-time buyers and urban commuters. The model sold more than 435,000 units in 2025, bringing cumulative sales since its 2020 launch to over 1.85 million units.
The latest update underscores SAIC-GM-Wuling’s strategy to defend its leading position by enhancing features and affordability, as competition in China’s low-cost EV segment continues to intensify.
