Alan Ai, the former president of the Onvo electric vehicle sub-brand under Nio, has joined Chinese hospitality company H World Group as chief growth officer, according to an internal appointment announcement.
Ai will report directly to H World chief executive Jin Hui and will be responsible for overseeing the company’s long-term growth planning and the execution of its expansion strategy, according to a screenshot of the internal notice shared on Tuesday by automotive blogger @德卤爱开车.
Before moving to H World, Ai held several senior management roles at Nio, including senior vice president and president of its Onvo brand. He announced his resignation in April 2025 after the sales performance of Onvo’s first model, the L60 mid-size sport utility vehicle, fell short of expectations.
The L60 had been positioned to compete directly with Tesla’s best-selling Tesla Model Y in China’s competitive electric vehicle market. Ai had earlier indicated he would step down if the model’s deliveries failed to surpass 20,000 units in March 2025. Official data later showed the Onvo brand delivered 4,820 vehicles that month.
Following his departure, Nio carried out a management restructuring within the Onvo division, appointing former Nio Power head Shen Fei as the new president of the brand.
Onvo later recorded stronger growth in the second half of last year, supported by the launch of its second model, the L90 large electric SUV. However, deliveries have declined since November amid a reduction in policy support for China’s new energy vehicle industry.
H World Group is one of China’s major hotel management companies, operating several domestic brands including Ji Hotel, HanTing, and Crystal Orange, and continues to expand its presence in the hospitality sector.
