Tesla has expanded its U.S. Model Y range with the launch of a new all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant priced at $41,990, while also simplifying trim names across the lineup, according to details published on the company’s configurator.
The new Model Y AWD is positioned between the entry-level rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version and the higher-priced Premium trims, offering buyers a more affordable dual-motor option without the additional features bundled into the Premium packages. The variant is currently available only in the United States. In Canada, Tesla has applied the revised naming structure but has not introduced a new AWD model.

According to Tesla, the Model Y AWD delivers an EPA-estimated driving range of 294 miles (473 km), compared with 321 miles (516 km) for the base RWD version. The AWD model accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, significantly quicker than the RWD variant’s 7.2 seconds.
Alongside the new model, Tesla has dropped the “Standard” label in both the U.S. and Canadian markets. What was previously sold as the Model Y Standard is now branded simply as Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive, while the new dual-motor version carries the Model Y AWD designation.

With the addition of the new trim, Tesla’s U.S. Model Y lineup now includes five variants: Model Y RWD ($39,990), Model Y AWD ($41,990), Model Y Premium RWD ($44,990), Model Y Premium AWD ($48,990), and Model Y Performance AWD ($57,490). The structure mirrors Europe’s five-variant strategy, though the European lineup includes a different mix, such as a long-range RWD option.
Despite the revised naming, the distinction between base and Premium models remains. The lower-priced versions use a 69 kWh battery, compared with a 78.1 kWh battery in the Premium trims. Premium models also include larger wheels, enhanced lighting, upgraded audio systems, additional interior screens, and more advanced comfort and convenience features.
