BYD reported a decline in domestic new energy vehicle (NEV) sales in December, even as overseas deliveries reached a record high, underscoring diverging trends in its global performance.
The company sold 420,398 NEVs in December, down 18.34 percent from a year earlier and 12.45 percent lower than in November, according to data released on Thursday. It marked the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year declines for the automaker’s total NEV sales.

Despite the overall slowdown, BYD’s overseas performance continued to strengthen. Overseas NEV deliveries reached 133,172 units in December, up 133.01 percent from a year earlier and 0.94 percent higher than November, setting a new monthly record.
Passenger vehicles accounted for the bulk of sales, with 414,784 units delivered in December, down 18.58 percent year-on-year and 12.66 percent month-on-month. Commercial NEV deliveries totaled 5,614 units, rising 4.56 percent from a year earlier and 6.63 percent from November.

Within the passenger segment, battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales reached 190,712 units, down 8.19 percent year-on-year and 19.71 percent from the prior month. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) deliveries totaled 224,072 units, declining 25.73 percent year-on-year and 5.61 percent month-on-month, marking the ninth consecutive monthly drop for the category.

For the full year 2025, BYD sold 4.60 million NEVs, representing a 7.73 percent increase from the previous year. The company remains the world’s largest seller of electrified vehicles, supported by both domestic demand and growing overseas shipments.
BYD is also a major battery supplier, and its power battery and energy storage installations reached 27.35 GWh in December, up 16.42 percent year-on-year, though slightly lower than in November.
