Swedish public transport operator Vy Buss has ordered 73 battery-electric buses from Volvo Buses for deployment in the city of Borås and surrounding regional routes, the companies said, strengthening Sweden’s ongoing shift toward zero-emission public transport.
The order consists of 46 Volvo 7900 Electric articulated buses, 14 Volvo 7900 Electric standard units and 13 Volvo 8900 Electric buses. Deliveries are scheduled to be completed by April 2027. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The buses will operate on urban routes within Borås as well as on regional services, including links to Viared, where Volvo Buses operates its main production facility. Chassis production will take place in Borås, while the bodies will be built by Volvo partner MCV at its manufacturing site outside Cairo, Egypt.
The deployment will result in full electrification of Borås’s city bus operations, a milestone for the municipality’s climate and transport strategy. Volvo said the new fleet will bring improvements in comfort, seating capacity and accessibility for passengers.

“Building on this strong local foundation, we and our dealer Boråsbil have together offered a comprehensive solution that includes service contracts and depot arrangements – ensuring reliability, uptime and long-term performance for the operator,” said Martin Spjern, country manager for Sweden at Volvo Buses.
Vy Buss described the order as a long-term investment in sustainable transport for the region. “At Vy Buss, we are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Volvo Buses for the delivery of their electric buses for our upcoming transit contract in the city of Borås,” said Chief Executive Robert Nyberg. “This marks the beginning of a long-term, forward-looking partnership to develop public transportation in Borås together.”
