Malaysia’s electric vehicle infrastructure is set for a major milestone with the opening of the country’s first highway-integrated EV charging hub in early 2027. The project is a joint initiative between Yinson GreenTech, a leading e-mobility and charging solutions provider, and PLUS Malaysia, the nation’s largest highway operator.
The companies have formed a joint-venture entity called Terra ChargEV to develop the new facility, which will be known as “The Hub.” Located at the Seremban Rest and Service Area (Southbound) along the North-South Expressway, the charging site will allow up to 20 EVs to charge simultaneously, serving as a major step toward supporting Malaysia’s growing EV adoption.

Construction has already begun, with completion scheduled for March 2027. The Hub will feature DC fast chargers only, offering charging times between 20 and 30 minutes. According to Yinson GreenTech, the total installed capacity will be 1.2 MW, suggesting that the chargers will likely fall below the ultra-fast range.
Currently, PLUS Malaysia operates DC chargers ranging from 47 kW to 200 kW across its highways, and as of August 2025, there are 112 EV charging points in operation. The initiative is part of Malaysia’s national plan, announced in 2021, to deploy 10,000 EV chargers nationwide—including 1,000 DC and 9,000 AC units—by the end of 2025.

However, recent data from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) indicates the country has reached 5,149 chargers so far, comprising 3,440 AC and 1,709 DC units, signaling that the target may be missed.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Yinson GreenTech CEO Lim Chern Yuan said the initiative aims to address key challenges for EV drivers by providing “convenience, speed, and reliability” on critical expressways, helping to reduce range anxiety and accelerate Malaysia’s transition to green mobility.
