Austrian building materials producer Rohrdorfer has introduced three Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric semi-trailer trucks to its fleet in Gmunden as part of efforts to reduce transport-related emissions.
The electric tractor units, operated by logistics partner Poll-Nussbaumer, will be used to haul cement from Rohrdorfer’s Upper Austria plant using silo trailers specifically designed for bulk cement transport.

The eActros 600 trucks will be charged exclusively at Poll-Nussbaumer’s Gmunden facility, where they are powered entirely by green electricity generated from on-site photovoltaic systems. “The new electric trucks are therefore climate-neutral,” the companies said. “Respectful treatment of the environment is very important to our company,” added managing partner Manfred Nussbaumer, noting that the adoption of e-trucks is part of a wider strategy to make logistics more sustainable.

Herbert Humps, sales manager and authorised signatory at Rohrdorfer Zement GmbH, said the partnership supports climate protection across the entire value chain. “By reducing CO2 emissions for both our products and our own operations, we are also supporting our customers in initiating the urgently needed changes,” he said.

Rohrdorfer has been pursuing decarbonisation through multiple measures beyond electrifying its fleet. The company offers three CO2-reduced cement types, including the “Eco Fusion” blend, which lowers CO2 emissions by up to 50% compared to 1990 levels.
The cement is in growing demand, particularly for public sector construction projects requiring low-emission materials. Rohrdorfer has also implemented electric forklifts and company vehicles across its operations as part of its broader e-mobility initiative.
