Tesla has introduced a new five-seat Model Y variant in China, offering the longest range yet in the SUV’s lineup. The Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive Edition, unveiled on Thursday, is priced at RMB 288,500 ($40,500) and delivers an impressive 821-kilometer range under the CLTC standard. The model has an estimated delivery window of two to four weeks, according to Tesla’s China website.
The new variant costs RMB 25,000 more than the entry-level Model Y, which offers a 593-kilometer range and starts at RMB 263,500. With this addition, Tesla’s five-seat Model Y lineup in China now includes three variants — the base model, the new long-range rear-wheel-drive version, and an all-wheel-drive option starting at RMB 313,500 with a 750-km range. Tesla also sells a six-seat Model Y L, priced from RMB 339,000 and offering a 751-km range.

The newly launched model is powered by a single 225-kW (302-hp) motor paired with a 78.4-kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack supplied by South Korea’s LG Energy Solution — the same unit found in the longest-range Model 3 introduced in August. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 201 km/h. Dimensions remain identical to other five-seat variants, measuring 4,797 mm in length with a 2,890 mm wheelbase.

Tesla is offering several purchase incentives for the new model, including five-year 0% financing and an RMB 8,000 paint customization credit. The six-seat Model Y L includes a three-year 0% financing offer.

The launch follows Tesla’s introduction of an 830-km long-range Model 3 earlier this year, as the company seeks to maintain its foothold in China’s highly competitive EV market. However, Tesla’s Model Y sales in China have slowed, with 292,843 units sold between January and September — down 13.27% year-on-year.
