BMW announced the presence of three new cars from the 7 Series, one of which is the BMW i7 xDrive60, the first electric car from the German manufacturer’s luxury sedan series family. Like the rest of the BMW 7 Series, the i7 xDrive60 comes with a long wheelbase that offers solid performance, as well as comfort for the driver and passengers alike.
But along with two other new 7 Series sedans, the wheelbase of the i7 xDrive60 has been extended by 0.2 inches to 126.6 inches. So it is claimed to be able to bring even more comfort for passengers sitting in the back seat.
Along with the length of the wheelbase, the overall length of BMW’s new electric car has also increased by 5.1 inches to 212.2 inches, width to 76.8 inches (up 1.9 inches), and height to 60.8 inches (up 2 inches). ).
For performance, the i7 xDrive60 will rely on two current-powered electric motors with fifth-generation eDrive technology that can produce an output of 536 horsepower and instantaneous torque of 549 lb-ft. This power allows it to go from 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and can cover a range of 300 miles in a maximum speed of 149 mph.
This range is possible thanks to a very thin high-voltage battery with a cell height of just 4.3 inches located low on the floor of the vehicle and providing up to 101.7 kWh of power.
BMW also features a Combined Charging Unit in the BMW i7 xDrive60, which allows AC charging to be carried out at speeds up to 11 kW, and DC power at speeds up to 195 kW.
Thus, the range of the electric car can be extended to 80 miles in just ten minutes of charging.
In addition, heat pump technology is used in the integrated heating and cooling systems for the cab and drive systems, helping to increase efficiency. As well as the adaptive recovery feature which can be customized individually.
In terms of technology, along with two other new BMW 7 Series cars, the i7 xDrive60 will be the first to have a BMW 8K theater screen in the center, measuring 31.3 inches. The screen that can be folded up will further pamper passengers in the back seat, especially with the support of Amazon Fire TV and touch screen remotes on the right and left door panels.
Other technology enhancements include the optional Highway Assistant (part of the Professional Driving Assistance Package) which provides hands-free automatic driving capability up to 80 mph. There’s also smarter Remote Controlled Parking Assistant technology and Maneuver Assistant that can emulate complex driving scenarios (such as in a parking garage).
On the instrument screen will show augmented reality combined from video with directions and related info.
Meanwhile, the door will detect potential hazards and also with a choice of options that can open automatically by touching the handle or the Interaction Bar.
Owners of the latest UWB-equipped iPhones can also use Digital Key Plus to lock, automatically unlock doors, and activate alarm systems.
With all the technology presented, the i7 xDrive60 is priced starting at around US $ 120 thousand. It can be pre-ordered now, although it will only ship to consumers in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2022.
