Geely will acquire a 26.4 percent stake in Renault do Brasil, marking a strategic step for the company’s expansion into South America. Renault Group will remain the controlling shareholder and continue to consolidate Renault do Brasil in its financial statements.
As a minority shareholder, Geely will be able to utilize Renault do Brasil’s industrial and commercial infrastructure to support its growth in the region. The Geely EX5 electric SUV is already available in Brazil through Renault’s dealership network.
Production at Renault’s Ayrton Senna plant in São José dos Pinhais, Paraná, will cover vehicles for both Geely Auto and Renault, while Renault plans to leverage Geely’s GEA new energy platform to expand its zero- and low-emission lineup for the Brazilian market.
Brazil is an increasingly important market for automakers, with vehicle registrations in the first half of 2025 accounting for more than 40 percent of Latin America’s total automotive registrations. Geely joins domestic peers BYD and GWM, both of which have launched localized production in Brazil. BYD began operations at its passenger vehicle plant in July 2025, with a Phase 1 annual capacity of 150,000 new energy vehicles, while GWM’s Brazilian plant opened in August 2025 with a 50,000-vehicle capacity.

Renault is reportedly also in discussions with other Chinese automakers, including Chery, to explore further partnerships in Brazil for joint vehicle production and sales.
