Porsche has revealed a special camouflage livery for its 99X Electric Formula E race car, inspired by the upcoming all-electric Cayenne, during pre-season testing in Valencia this week. The design marks the German automaker’s effort to highlight how innovations from its motorsport program are being transferred into production vehicles.
The two 99X Electric cars, driven by Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller, feature the new Cayenne-inspired design as Porsche prepares for the world premiere of the Cayenne Electric SUV. According to the company, both the race car and the new SUV share advanced energy recovery systems and highly efficient powertrains capable of up to 600 kW of recuperation power.

“The Cayenne Electric is a prime example of the much-cited technology transfer from motorsport to production,” said Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport. “Energy recovery through the electric machines during braking is just one area where significant knowledge transfer has taken place. Another is the highly efficient direct oil cooling of the electric motors – a concept that already characterized our first Formula E vehicle in 2019.”
The Cayenne prototype has already made several public appearances, including record-setting runs at the Shelsley Walsh hill climb and demonstrations at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with Czech driver Gabriela Jílková behind the wheel. Jílková, who supports Porsche’s Formula E team through simulator work, will also drive the 99X Electric during the ongoing test sessions in Valencia.

Both of Porsche’s Formula E entries will wear the Cayenne-inspired livery for the duration of the testing period before reverting to their traditional colors ahead of shipment to Brazil for the opening race of the 2025/26 season.
Porsche, the reigning Teams’ and Manufacturers’ champion in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, will enter its seventh season in 2025/26. The manufacturer will again field its works team alongside customer teams Andretti Formula E, which will compete with the GEN3 Evo car, and Cupra Kiro, using the previous-generation 99X.
