BYD plans to introduce several of its advanced vehicle technologies, including low-temperature fast-charging batteries and high-level driver assistance systems, to its more affordable Qin and Song series models priced around RMB 100,000 ($14,000) starting in 2026, according to Chinese media reports.
The move aims to expand BYD’s presence in colder regions such as Northeast and Northwest China, where new energy vehicle (NEV) adoption remains below the national average. From January to April, NEV penetration in Jilin and Liaoning provinces was around 35%, while in Heilongjiang and Qinghai it fell below 30%. An industry insider said the low-temperature fast-charging battery is designed to address these markets, offering reliable performance and rapid charging in harsh winter conditions.

The technology enables batteries to self-heat and maintain fast-charging efficiency even in extreme cold, allowing a 5-minute recharge without degradation and extending the vehicle’s electric range. In addition to the low-temperature battery, BYD will also introduce its DiPilot 300 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) and DiSus-C intelligent damping system to more mass-market models. The DiSus-C system already appears on the RMB 100,000-level Qin L EV, and both technologies are expected to reach wider adoption as early as next year.

BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu said the biggest challenge in promoting advanced driving assistance is cost, noting that “ADAS almost equates to a high price,” as most vehicles equipped with such systems start above RMB 200,000 ($28,000). At BYD’s 2025 Intelligentization Strategy Launch Event, he announced the company’s “ADAS for All Strategy,” calling 2025 the first year of universal assisted driving. He said within two to three years, high-level ADAS will become “a standard necessity, like seat belts and airbags.”

BYD’s latest expansion comes amid strong sales momentum. The company delivered 396,000 vehicles in September, up 18.6% year-on-year, and 6.1% from the previous month. From January to September, cumulative sales reached 3.26 million vehicles, reinforcing BYD’s position as China’s top-selling new energy automaker.
