China’s BYD has unveiled refreshed versions of three hybrid models from its Song and Qin lineups, aiming to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive domestic market. The updates come as rival Geely Auto continues to expand its Galaxy sub-brand, intensifying pressure in the hybrid and plug-in segment.
The new lineup includes the 2026 Song Pro DM-i hybrid SUV, Song L DM-i hybrid SUV, and Qin L DM-i hybrid sedan. Each model features extended electric ranges and improved efficiency, reflecting BYD’s efforts to enhance the appeal of its dual-mode hybrid (DM-i) technology.

The 2026 Song Pro DM-i starts at RMB 102,800 ($14,430) and offers a battery range of 133 kilometers, up from 75 or 115 kilometers in the previous generation. When fully charged and fueled, the model delivers a combined range of up to 1,508 kilometers, with fuel consumption as low as 3.2 liters per 100 kilometers under NEDC conditions. BYD is also offering a RMB 3,000 trade-in subsidy on the model.

The updated Song L DM-i, priced from RMB 139,800, offers two battery configurations with ranges of 130 km and 200 km—an improvement over the earlier model’s maximum 160 km. It maintains the same exterior dimensions as its predecessor and achieves fuel consumption as low as 3.4 liters per 100 kilometers.

Completing the lineup, the 2026 Qin L DM-i sedan starts at RMB 96,800, featuring an electric range of 128 kilometers and a combined range of 2,148 kilometers. It records fuel consumption of just 2.79 liters per 100 kilometers under NEDC conditions.
BYD has maintained stable pricing across its domestic lineup this year, introducing fewer new models compared to 2023. Analysts say this strategy, while helping control costs, has contributed to slower sales growth amid rising competition in China’s fast-evolving new energy vehicle market.
