Munich Airport has inaugurated Bavaria’s largest electric vehicle charging park in parking garage P44, equipped with 275 charging points powered by rooftop solar panels. The €5.2 million project is part of the airport’s NetZero 2035 strategy and its broader effort to expand sustainable mobility infrastructure.
Located opposite the LabCampus innovation hub, the new charging facility is among Germany’s largest public charging parks. Of the 275 chargers, 138 provide a nominal output of 11 kW, with peaks of up to 22 kW.
Power comes from two rooftop photovoltaic systems on parking garages P44 and P43, which together feature 7,216 solar modules delivering a peak output of three megawatts.
“Munich Airport is our gateway to the world and also a gateway to e-mobility,” said Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder, highlighting Bavaria’s ambition to triple its charging points by 2030. Finance Minister Albert Füracker called the project “a clear signal for climate protection,” while Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers noted that the charging park links energy generation, mobility, and grid infrastructure, serving as “a model and blueprint for further construction projects across the campus.”
Munich Airport already operates more than 1,140 publicly accessible charging points, including infrastructure for vehicles and equipment on its aprons. Under its NetZero 2035 plan, the airport aims to eliminate climate-damaging CO2 emissions by 2035, covering both direct emissions and indirect emissions linked to passenger travel.
