General Motors’ 2026 Chevy BrightDrop will no longer offer the translucent cargo area roof option, according to GM Authority. Previously priced at $500 under RPO code CC4, the feature allowed additional natural light into the van’s cargo area.
The 2026 model will revert to a standard metal roof. When production resumes in November 2025 at GM’s CAMI Assembly Plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, the BrightDrop will include roof rack reinforcement (RPO code FRR) as standard. The reinforcement adds mounting brackets capable of supporting up to 350 pounds, facilitating the installation of ladders or other work-related accessories and expanding vocational fleet possibilities.
Originally slated to begin production on July 14, 2025, BrightDrop manufacturing has faced multiple delays, with the start date now set for November 17. Production will be limited to a single shift of roughly 400 hourly workers, resulting in 600 layoffs due to slower-than-expected demand. BrightDrop battery production at CAMI will remain offline, with batteries imported from the United States.
Despite tapering demand, the BrightDrop continues to be a key component of GM’s commercial electric vehicle portfolio. Amazon is currently testing a small fleet of the vans as part of a pilot program to diversify its electric delivery fleet, moving beyond its previous reliance on Rivian EDVs.
