China’s Huawei-backed electric vehicle (EV) brand Aito unveiled plans for its global expansion at the IAA Mobility 2025 show in Munich on Wednesday, beginning with its flagship extended-range SUV and other models for select international markets.
Aito was founded through a collaboration between Chinese automaker Seres and Huawei, and the company is launching the first vehicles in regions including the Middle East.
Seres Auto president Leon He said the company is ready to offer “an unparalleled ‘new luxury’ smart mobility experience to customers around the world,” although initial international availability will focus on just three models.
The top-end Aito 9 is based on the domestic M9 extended-range EV (EREV) and is available as a dual-motor all-wheel-drive SUV seating five to six passengers. It offers a ternary NMC battery rated at up to 52 kilowatt-hours (kWh), augmented by a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine. A full battery-electric (BEV) version delivers 390 kW (523 horsepower), compared with 365 kW (489 hp) in the extended-range variant.
The Aito 5, derived from the domestic M5, is a smaller SUV offering BEV and EREV configurations with up to 200 kW (268 hp) from an 83 kWh LFP battery and up to 365 kW (489 hp) in the AWD 1.5l/42 kWh NMC setup.
The Aito 7, positioned between the 5 and 9, features a 1.5l/42 kWh NMC power source with outputs up to 330 kW (449 hp) and a similar interior display layout as the other models.
The M9-based Aito 9 features a 12.3-inch instrument panel, a 16-inch passenger-side monitor, and a 15.6-inch central console display, while other models share the central display and some instrument panel features. Aito indicated that international versions will offer a “diverse range” of energy options to cater to varying market demands.
