Tesla on Tuesday introduced a new feature called MultiPass, allowing its customers to charge at third-party stations using their existing Tesla account, in a move designed to simplify access to public charging.
The program, launched first in the Netherlands, enables drivers to start charging sessions with their Tesla app or key card, eliminating the need for multiple apps, separate payment accounts or RFID membership cards. Charging locations, usage history and payments can now be managed directly through the Tesla ecosystem.
“ Nobody likes creating more accounts with extra payment details and passwords,” said Max De Zegher, Tesla’s Director of Charging for North America. “Simplicity was a core design principle behind MultiPass.”
The Netherlands was chosen as the pilot market because of its dense charging infrastructure and advanced EV adoption. Tesla said the service could expand to other European countries, North America and additional regions if customer feedback proves positive, though it gave no timeline.
The feature builds on Tesla’s efforts to make its mobile app a comprehensive platform for vehicle ownership. The app already allows users to schedule service, monitor vehicle status, manage Supercharging and control climate functions remotely. MultiPass adds third-party charging integration to that suite.
