Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng plans to bring its budget-friendly Mona series to Europe in 2025 as part of its overseas expansion strategy, Chief Executive He Xiaopeng said on Monday.
Speaking to CNBC at the IAA Mobility show, He said the Mona lineup would be introduced in Europe next year, with a wider rollout planned for 2026. “In 2026 you can expect a variety of Mona products launched into the Chinese and European markets, as well as in the rest of the world,” he said. “I believe by then, what we launch will be very proven and very excellent vehicles.”
The Mona series stems from Xpeng’s acquisition of ride-hailing giant Didi Global’s EV business in 2023. Initially conceived as a separate brand, the lineup was later folded into Xpeng’s product portfolio. Its first model, the Mona M03 electric sedan, was launched in China in August 2024 at a starting price of 119,800 yuan ($16,820) — roughly half the cost of Tesla’s Model 3. He has previously said the M03’s name was chosen to salute the U.S. rival’s best-selling sedan.
Xpeng also introduced the Mona M03 Max in May this year, priced from 129,800 yuan, equipped with advanced driver assistance features that the company says are comparable to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving system.
Analysts note the Mona range is aimed at broadening Xpeng’s customer base by offering lower-priced models alongside its higher-end P7 sedan and G6 SUV, positioning the company to compete aggressively both in China and abroad.
