Nio said on Monday it delivered 31,305 vehicles in August, its highest-ever monthly total, as strong sales from its Onvo and Firefly sub-brands offset weakness in its main brand.
Deliveries rose 55.2% from a year earlier and 48.9% from July, surpassing the company’s previous record of 31,138 units set in December 2024. Onvo delivered 16,434 units, up 175% from July, while Firefly delivered 4,346 units, an 83.7% increase.
The main Nio brand continued to struggle, delivering 10,525 units in August, down 47.8% year-on-year and 17% from July. From January to August, Nio delivered 166,472 vehicles, a 30% increase from a year earlier, bringing cumulative deliveries to 838,036.
Onvo’s growth was led by the L90 SUV, launched on July 31 and delivered from August 1. The model sold 10,575 units in August, making it the fastest in Nio’s history to surpass 10,000 deliveries in a single month. Nio management said the L90 “has driven substantial store traffic” and boosted interest in Onvo’s earlier L60 model.

Firefly, meanwhile, launched its first EV in April and began deliveries in Europe in mid-August, starting with Norway and the Netherlands. On August 25, Firefly released a limited “Nomadic Maillard Edition” in China, capped at 333 units, which sold out in 30 hours, according to company president Daniel Jin.
Nio’s main brand is expected to receive a boost from new products. Pre-sales for its third-generation ES8 large SUV began in late August, ahead of its official launch at Nio Day 2025 next month. Founder and CEO William Li said reservations for the model are “even outperforming those for the Onvo L90.”
