Factorial Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with battery manufacturer SK On to evaluate the manufacturing potential of next-generation solid-state batteries using existing lithium-ion production infrastructure.
The collaboration brings together Factorial’s solid-state battery technology and commercialization expertise with SK On’s global manufacturing network as the companies explore pathways for large-scale production.

Companies Explore Scalable Solid-State Battery Production
Under the agreement, Factorial and SK On will jointly assess the technical feasibility and manufacturing requirements for Factorial’s FEST solid-state battery technology.
The study will examine how SK On’s existing lithium-ion battery manufacturing facilities could support the future production of solid-state batteries, potentially accelerating commercialization by leveraging established manufacturing infrastructure.
SK On currently supplies electric vehicle batteries to automotive manufacturers including Hyundai Motor Group, Ford, Volkswagen and Ferrari. The company operates more than 200 gigawatt-hours of annual battery production capacity worldwide, including approximately 100 gigawatt-hours in the United States.

Its US manufacturing network includes a 22-gigawatt-hour facility in Commerce, Georgia, as well as operations in Tennessee.
Factorial said the partnership aligns with its capital-light industrialization strategy, which focuses on developing battery technologies that can be integrated into existing manufacturing ecosystems rather than requiring entirely new production facilities.

Chief Executive Officer Siyu Huang said scalable manufacturing will be critical to the commercial success of solid-state batteries.

Their manufacturing footprint spans some of the world’s most advanced battery facilities, and their expertise will be critical in shaping how solid-state battery technology integrates into global production ecosystems.”
Factorial said its solid-state battery platforms are designed for applications including electric mobility, aerospace systems and hyperscale data centers, where higher energy density can reduce battery size and weight while improving system efficiency.

Ki-soo Park, Head of the Institute of Future Technology at SK On, said the partnership provides an opportunity to evaluate the readiness of solid-state battery manufacturing.

SK On will continue to explore collaboration opportunities in next-generation battery technologies.”
The companies said they will continue exploring opportunities to support the future development of solid-state batteries for mobility and other high-performance applications. The memorandum of understanding is non-binding, with the parties expecting to negotiate definitive agreements governing future collaboration.
