Transport and logistics firm DSV has added four Volvo FH Aero Electric 4×2 tractor units to its UK fleet, marking the start of a wider rollout that will see the company take delivery of 300 zero-emission trucks from Volvo Trucks by 2026. The new vehicles, which replace older diesel models, will be based at DSV’s site in Immingham, the company said on Thursday.
The agreement between DSV and Volvo Trucks was signed in August last year. Volvo said the FH Aero Electric units offer “improved aerodynamics” and an advanced electric drivetrain designed to maximise energy efficiency. Each truck is equipped with six battery packs—the largest available configuration—providing a range of about 300 kilometres. The powertrain uses three electric motors delivering up to 666 horsepower and 2,400 Nm of continuous torque, paired with Volvo’s I-Shift gearbox for smooth gear changes. Fast charging at 250 kW DC can replenish the battery in 2.5 hours.
“Volvo gave us that confidence. Its approach to range, reliability, and infrastructure support aligns with our needs, and we know we can rely on its support network to keep us moving,” said Keith Northen, Manager Divisional Road at DSV. “The FH Aero Electric offers the right balance of range, payload capacity and aerodynamic efficiency for our operational needs. It’s a practical solution that supports both ours and our customers’ sustainability goals while keeping our service levels high.”
The Globetrotter cabs include features aimed at driver comfort such as leather upholstery, heated and suspended driver’s seats, dual armrests, a premium mattress protector, a fridge and additional storage space. The vehicles are covered by a five-year Volvo Gold Contract, which includes all maintenance, repairs, and proactive battery monitoring to ensure maximum uptime.
DSV said the deployment is part of its broader strategy to reduce emissions in its road transport operations, in line with customer sustainability requirements and the company’s climate targets.
