PepsiCo UK has named XPO Logistics as its core transport provider across England and Wales, a move that aligns with the company’s broader decarbonisation goals. As part of the partnership, six battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks will be deployed to replace more than one million diesel-driven kilometres annually, resulting in an emissions reduction of over 1,200 tonnes of CO₂.
The fully electric eActros 600 is equipped with three battery packs offering a combined 621kWh of capacity and an estimated real-world range of approximately 500 kilometres per charge. The trucks will be used to transport PepsiCo’s popular snack brands, including Walkers crisps and Doritos, to retailers across the UK.
“We are very proud to strengthen our partnership further with XPO Logistics with this order of our award-winning eActros 600s for the PepsiCo partnership,” said Heiko Selzam, Managing Director at Daimler Truck UK. “This commitment underscores the recognition of both companies of the critical role these vehicles will play in achieving their sustainability goals.”
XPO will also provide PepsiCo with a CO₂ Reporting Dashboard that uses real-time data and AI to monitor and enhance carbon reduction strategies. The system is expected to help both companies identify and implement efficiencies throughout their logistics operations.
“This new partnership will play a vital role in further reducing our logistics emissions as we move iconic products like Walkers crisps and Doritos to our customers across the UK,” said Andrew Smethurst, UK Logistics Director at PepsiCo. “XPO Logistics has shown itself to be the ideal partner to help advance our PepsiCo Positive ambition.”
The initiative builds on PepsiCo’s continued use of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) in parts of its UK logistics network and is part of the company’s wider PepsiCo Positive (pep+) sustainability framework. The strategy, launched in 2021, aims to reduce emissions across its value chain and achieve net-zero status by 2050.
