Jeep is offering a first glimpse of its revamped 2026 Cherokee SUV, signaling the brand’s intent to reinvigorate its lineup following six consecutive years of declining global sales. The new Cherokee, set to debut next year, will feature a redesigned exterior and offer hybrid propulsion — and potentially an all-electric variant.
While Jeep has not officially confirmed a battery electric version of the new Cherokee, the SUV will be built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, which supports a range of powertrain configurations, including full electrification. The same platform underpins Jeep’s new Wagoneer S, which delivers an estimated range of 300 miles on a single charge.
In a statement, Jeep said the next-generation Cherokee will “redefine North America’s most popular vehicle segment,” bringing customers “a new, efficient and powerful hybrid propulsion option.” When contacted for comment, the company added that more details regarding powertrain options will be shared soon.
The news comes as Jeep expands its electric offerings. Its first fully electric model, the Wagoneer S, launched earlier this year in the U.S., starting at $66,995 for the newly introduced Limited trim. Jeep is also preparing to launch the off-road-focused Recon EV, which is inspired by the Wrangler and is expected to bring enhanced capabilities, according to a recent U.S. patent filing.
Despite confirming the 2026 Grand Cherokee will come in two-row, three-row L, and plug-in hybrid 4xe formats, Jeep has held back on revealing a battery-only version. However, the use of the EV-capable STLA Large platform for the upcoming Cherokee has sparked speculation that a fully electric variant could be in the pipeline.
