Gotion High-tech will supply its newly developed 46-series cylindrical battery cells to Chinese eVTOL maker Ehang, as part of a strategic partnership to enhance the capabilities of the EH216 electric aircraft series.
The agreement upgrades a previous framework signed in December 2023 and includes collaboration on battery systems, energy storage, and charging infrastructure. Gotion’s high-energy-density, high-power 46-series cells will form the core of a custom battery system designed to extend range, increase power, and improve safety for Ehang’s flagship EH216 model.
“Gotion’s advanced 46-series cylindrical battery cell technology will unlock higher performance boundaries for the EH216 series,” said Feng Shuai, Ehang’s senior vice president.
The EH216-S, officially priced at RMB 2.39 million ($330,000) in China, has a maximum flight speed of 130 km/h and a typical flight time of 25 minutes. In a test last November, a version of the aircraft using solid-state batteries flew uninterrupted for over 48 minutes, highlighting Ehang’s interest in next-generation power solutions.
The new battery partnership is expected to support Ehang’s commercialization strategy in China’s low-altitude aviation economy. The companies also plan to collaborate on future aircraft beyond the EH216 line.
Gotion ranked sixth globally in battery installations from January to April 2025, with 10.6 GWh and a 3.4% market share, according to SNE Research.
