DS Automobiles has delivered its first fully electric official state vehicle, the Presidential DS No. 8, to French President Emmanuel Macron, marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day on May 8. This marks a historic moment, as it is the first time a French president has used a fully electric vehicle for official functions.
The Presidential DS No. 8 is a bespoke electric flagship designed exclusively for the French Presidency. The vehicle, which was driven to the Paris Armistice celebrations, features a striking Sapphire Blue paint with black-painted quarter panels, along with an illuminated grille adorned with the red, white, and blue colours of the French flag. Flag holders and Tricolore badges are also incorporated into the design, symbolising the national pride of France.
Inside, the vehicle boasts luxurious fabrics sourced from renowned French textile companies such as Ateliers Lison de Caunes, Métaphores, and Atelier Lognon, elevating its prestige with artisanal craftsmanship. The No. 8 is equipped with an ACC battery, offering a range of up to 750km, with the capability to cover 500km on motorways without the need for charging. It also supports rapid charging, restoring 200km of range in just 10 minutes.
Xavier Peugeot, CEO of DS Automobiles, commented: “Presidential DS No. 8, on the day of the 80th anniversary of the 8 May 1945 Victory Day, continues the line of special DS models acclaimed by the Presidency of the Republic for nearly 70 years. With 750 km of electric range, it combines exceptional craftsmanship with an avant-garde spirit, always with a sense of excellence.”
This marks another milestone in President Macron’s affinity with DS vehicles, following his use of a bespoke DS 7 Crossback during his 2017 inauguration and the addition of the DS 7 Élysée plug-in hybrid to the presidential fleet in 2021.
