General Motors has just announced that it will start production of the crossover EV they are developing called the Cadillac Lyriq.
According to Cadillac’s vice president, Rory Harvey, production will start as planned due to the threat of the coronavirus and a shortage of semiconductor chips, which has led to sporadic factory closures.
The Cadillac Lyriq is slated to start at $59,990. This is the first electric vehicle line from Cadillac. The company itself plans to make fully electric vehicles by 2030.

Production of the Lyriq will take place at the plant in Tennessee and is expected to arrive in dealerships in May.
The Cadillac Lyriq itself was first introduced to the public in August 2020 and uses GM’s first-generation Ultium EV architecture.
The Cadillac Lyriq is expected to be the new “technological spearhead” to take on Tesla and other automakers who have transitioned into the era of electrification.
Harvey said 220,000 people were interested and had asked for additional information about the car. But Harvey declined to comment on how many reservations are for the Cadillac Lyriq.
