Chinese automaker BYD has introduced the Sealion 05 EV, a compact electric SUV, at a starting price of RMB 117,800 ($16,230). This model is the latest addition to BYD’s Ocean series, following the recent launch of the Qin L EV sedan.
The Sealion 05 EV is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo and measures 4,520 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm. It features a rear-wheel-drive system powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor.

The base variant delivers a peak power of 140 kW and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, while higher-tier versions offer 160 kW and achieve the same acceleration in 7.2 seconds.
Equipped with BYD’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade battery, the entry-level model has a capacity of 50.05 kWh, providing a CLTC range of 430 km.

The premium variants come with a 60.9 kWh battery, extending the range to 520 km. All versions support fast charging, capable of increasing the battery charge from 30% to 80% in 18 minutes.
The Sealion 05 EV comes standard with BYD’s “God’s Eye C” smart driving system, which includes features such as Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) for highways and expressways. This system utilizes a camera vision solution, omitting LiDAR, to maintain affordability.

This launch further diversifies BYD’s Sealion family, which debuted with the Sealion 07 EV in May 2024 and expanded with the Sealion 05 DM-i hybrid in September 2024.
