Tesla is preparing to launch a new, more powerful Model Y Performance trim, with recent sightings in California showing the crossover testing on public roads fitted with 21-inch forged wheels.
The update could coincide with a simultaneous release in the United States, Europe and China.
The 2026 Model Y Performance was recently filmed in Palo Alto under camouflage wrap, displaying the larger wheels reportedly exclusive to the new trim. Earlier this year, the vehicle was spotted undergoing testing at Germany’s Nürburgring racetrack.

Tesla has not disclosed pricing, but the previous Performance edition carried about a $10,000 premium over the all-wheel drive version.
The automaker may aim to introduce the updated trim before the $7,500 U.S. federal EV tax credit expires at the end of September.
The upcoming model is expected to feature a 510-horsepower drivetrain similar to the Model 3 Performance, up from 456 hp in the current version, enabling 0-60 mph acceleration in just over three seconds. A lighter and more aerodynamic design could extend range even without changes to battery capacity.
Exterior updates are anticipated to include unique badging, a larger spoiler, revised bumpers with additional diffusers and the forged 21-inch wheels.
