The 2026 Nissan LEAF has earned a Car and Driver Editors’ Choice award, following a comprehensive evaluation covering performance, value and driving enjoyment, the publication said.
The third-generation battery-electric model achieved a minimum score of 9 out of 10 in Car and Driver’s instrumented testing and segment comparisons, placing it among a limited group of vehicles recognised across 47 categories. The award comes as Nissan refreshes the LEAF with longer range, updated design and broader access to public charging infrastructure.

The 2026 LEAF delivers an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 303 miles on a single charge and starts at $29,990 for the S+ grade, positioning it competitively in the mass-market EV segment. The model also features a built-in North American Charging Standard port, providing Plug & Charge access to more than 27,500 Tesla Superchargers across North America.
Industry recognition for the updated LEAF has extended beyond Car and Driver. The model has also received a Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award, was named InsideEVs’ Breakthrough EV of the Year, and was included in the Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems list. Additional honours include World’s Best Compact Car from the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year jury and multiple awards at the inaugural Buzz Awards.

The redesign introduces a more upright, SUV-inspired stance alongside a range of new technology features. These include a dimming panoramic roof, a standard Intelligent Around View Monitor, dual 14.3-inch displays with Google built-in services, 64-colour ambient lighting, holographic-style rear lamps and flush door handles.
Nissan said the latest generation of the LEAF reflects its strategy to broaden EV adoption by pairing extended real-world range and accessible pricing with improved charging convenience and in-car technology.
