Volkswagen’s all-electric ID.Buzz has secured a five-star safety rating in the latest Euro NCAP tests, published in September 2025, with high marks for occupant protection and advanced safety systems, though performance against vulnerable road users left room for improvement.
The five-door MPV, tested in its 210 kW “Pro” variant, scored 84% for adult occupant protection, 85% for child occupant protection, 70% for vulnerable road users, and 73% for safety assist technologies.
Euro NCAP said the passenger compartment remained stable in frontal crash tests, providing “good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger.” It added that Volkswagen demonstrated similar levels of safety for occupants of different sizes and seating positions.
Child safety performance was described as strong, with maximum points achieved in crash tests using six- and ten-year-old dummies. The report noted that all restraint types designed for the ID.Buzz could be properly installed, while a switch to disable the passenger airbag was rewarded for enabling rearward-facing child seats.
However, pedestrian and cyclist safety results were more mixed. Protection of the head was inconsistent, with poor scores around the stiff windscreen pillars, and pelvis protection was rated “almost completely poor.” Without additional points in this area, the model would have fallen short of a five-star rating, Euro NCAP said. Still, the ID.Buzz’s autonomous emergency braking system performed well against cyclists and adequately against pedestrians, including scenarios preventing “dooring” accidents.
Safety assist systems such as lane-keeping support, speed assistance, and driver fatigue detection were assessed positively, though Euro NCAP highlighted that the indirect driver monitoring system did not track distraction. The ID.Buzz is also equipped with an advanced eCall system and measures to prevent secondary collisions.
The ratings apply to all ID.Buzz variants, both left- and right-hand drive, and reinforce Volkswagen’s push to showcase its flagship electric MPV as a family-oriented yet safety-conscious choice in Europe’s competitive EV market.
