In a series of advancements beneath its familiar exterior, the 2024 Polestar 2 demonstrates enhanced performance capabilities and an extended range, according to recent details disclosed by the EPA. The latest update affirms the vehicle’s ability to cover up to 320 miles on a single charge.
Serving as the entry-level variant within the U.S. Polestar 2 range, the Long Range Single Motor model has undergone significant developments. In the preceding 2022 and 2023 iterations, this model exhibited a driving range of 270 miles (435 km). However, the 2024 version has propelled this metric to an impressive 320 miles (515 km) with the utilization of 19-inch wheels, or alternatively, 307 miles (494 km) when equipped with the 20-inch wheels.
The augmentation in driving range can be chiefly attributed to the adoption of an 82 kWh battery pack, a notable upgrade from the prior 78 kWh variant. This transition, combined with the implementation of newfound efficiencies and a switch from front-wheel to rear-wheel drive configuration, has yielded remarkable results. In terms of power, the 2024 Polestar 2 Single Motor version now generates 295 horsepower, a significant surge from the previous 228 horsepower. Furthermore, the acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) has been refined to an impressive 5.9 seconds, down from the previous 7 seconds.
The Polestar 2 Dual Motor variant has also witnessed an expansion in its driving range. The 2022 rendition offered 249 miles (401 km), which was later enhanced to 260 miles (418 km) in the 2023 model year. The 2024 model has continued this progression, reaching a range of 276 miles (444 km) with the 19-inch wheels, and 266 miles (428 km) with the 20-inch wheels. Despite these improvements, it’s worth noting that the U.S. version of the Dual Motor variant still retains the 78 kWh battery, in contrast to its counterparts in other markets which feature the newer 82 kWh battery.
Occupying the apex of the Polestar 2 range, the Dual Motor Performance Pack variant registers a range of 247 miles (397 km) as per the EPA assessment. This figure, intriguingly, is slightly lower than the 260 miles (418 km) attributed to the 2023 model. Similar to its counterparts, this variant adheres to the use of the older 78 kWh battery.
As Polestar continues to fine-tune its offerings, the 2024 Polestar 2 lineup reflects a considerable step forward in terms of performance and driving range. These enhancements solidify the brand’s commitment to technological progress and its ongoing pursuit of delivering a well-rounded electric driving experience.
