The upcoming 2024 GMC Hummer EV is set to bring a groundbreaking innovation to the table. The popular all-electric truck is set to receive a Level 2 onboard charger as standard on select trims, with the new feature allowing for bidirectional charging for the very first time.
According to Automotive News, the 19.2-kilowatt Level 2 AC onboard charger will come as standard on the SUV’s Edition 1, 3X, and 2X trims, as well as on the pickup’s 3X and 2X variants. With this advanced onboard charger, the 2024 Hummer EV will be able to provide up to 6 kW of power to other vehicles via an optional plug accessory.
Previously, the Hummer EV model came with an 11.5 kW AC onboard charger, which did not provide vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities. “So in ’24, we are enabling that,” said Aaron Pfau, lead development engineer for Hummer EV. “The 19.2-kilowatt charger, Level 2 AC charger, that we have on board, that is really the key change that enables this,” he added for Automotive News.

GMC is also offering an accessory that allows the 2024 Hummer EV pickup and SUVs to provide up to 3 kW of power to appliances such as TVs, laptops, and heaters, making it an efficient and effective backup generator.
Bidirectional charging, the ability to export power from the vehicle’s battery, is a highly sought-after feature in the world of EVs. The upcoming Hummer EV Edition 1 with its massive 212-kW (usable) battery pack is sure to be an industry leader with this new innovation.
The 2024 Hummer EV starts at around $100,000, and with the addition of this new onboard charger, it’s set to become an even more attractive option for environmentally conscious consumers.
