Lexus is giving a refresh to its first electric car model, the UX 300e, by creating a new, larger battery storage.
This addition is made so that the Lexus UX 300e, which was first launched in 2020, remains relevant in the face of increasingly fierce competition in the electric car industry.
For the 2023 Lexus UX 300e, the battery storage capacity has been increased from 54.4 kWh to 72.8 kWh. This allows the EV to drive 40 percent longer and 450 kilometers (280 miles) longer than the previous model—on the WLTC cycle for Europe.
Lexus also says the energy consumption rating is 166.8 Wh/km and the battery adopts the CHAdeMO fast charging standard. No charging time has been announced yet.
As before, the battery powers a front-mounted electric motor with 150 kilowatts (201 horsepower) and 300 Newton-meters (221 pound-feet) of torque. In addition to a larger battery, Lexus has made further dynamic enhancements to the UX 300e, as well as improved safety and active infotainment.
The Lexus Security System + active security technology is extended to the UX 300e thanks to the addition of an upgraded single-lens camera and millimeter-wave radar. As a result, the Pre-Collision System can now detect cyclists during the day and pedestrians at night, as well as oncoming vehicles before turning right at intersections.
In addition, there is Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (with all-speed tracking function), the Emergency Steering Assist function has been added, along with the improved Lane Tracing Assist which now uses AI technology for lane recognition.
For multimedia systems, the UX 300e gains a larger and higher resolution 12.3-inch touch panel display, optimized switch shape and layout of the instrument panel and console area, and two new USB-C ports. Lexus has also introduced a digital lock smartphone app, a center-screen panoramic monitor with a transparent ground-level image display, and a vertically extended wireless charging bay.
