Pricing for the 2023 Kia Niro PHEV has just been revealed, and it’s fairly competitive. The Kia Niro 2023 PHEV will start at $33,740 for the EX trim and $39,490 for the SX Premium trim. The price does not include the shipping fee of $1,295.
All 2023 Kia Niro PHEV have an upgraded version of the 1.6-liter engine, electric motor and six-speed automatic clutch. The Niro PHEV has a larger electric motor than the standard Niro Hybrid.
That is, instead of 139 horsepower, the Niro PHEV has 180 horsepower. The 11.1 kilowatt-hour battery allows the Niro to cover a range of up to 33 EV miles (53 km), which is higher than the 26-mile (42 km) range of the last generation. In states such as California, the Niro PHEV is eligible for single-passenger HOV line access.
However, the Niro PHEV faces stiff competition. While it doesn’t offer that much EV range, the Toyota Prius Prime is priced slightly less.
In addition, the Kia Niro is made in South Korea, so it is not eligible for the US plug-in vehicle tax credit. The Ford Escape PHEV is more expensive than the Kia Niro PHEV, but after the tax credit, some Escape PHEV variants can cost less than the Niro PHEV.
Kia says that the Niro PHEV 2023 will arrive at US dealers first and will soon be available in all 50 states.
