BMW enthusiasts and electric vehicle enthusiasts alike can mark their calendars for September 2, as that’s the date when the BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept will be unveiled at the IAA Mobility in Munich. The concept will serve as a close preview of the forthcoming production models from BMW’s Neue Klasse lineup, which is set to enter production in 2025.
According to Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, the choice of September 2 for the concept’s debut holds significance, as it aligns with the anniversary of BMW staking its claim on the Neue Klasse nearly 60 years ago.
The BMW Vision Neue Klasse is not just a design study; it’s a glimpse into the next generation of BMW models. Zipse assured that the concept is “close to standard production” and will hit the roads soon. Building on the retro-futuristic style and digital cockpit showcased in the BMW i Vision Dee concept at CES 2023, the Neue Klasse promises a fresh and futuristic approach.
BMW’s focus on the mobility of tomorrow revolves around three key areas: electric, digital, and circular. These aspects will be seamlessly integrated into the Vision Neue Klasse, creating a comprehensive and cohesive concept. Zipse emphasized that the new concept will push boundaries in multiple domains, including design, operating concepts, efficiency, and sustainability.
The Neue Klasse is an ambitious undertaking, described by Zipse as a “mega-project” that encompasses the entire company’s future. BMW is gearing up for this transformation and is committing significant investments to develop future technologies over the next few years.
Production of the first Neue Klasse EV is scheduled to begin in 2025 at Debrecen, Hungary. Additional production facilities at the central plant in Munich, Germany, and the BMW Brilliance factory in Shenyang, China, are set to follow in 2026.
BMW has already confirmed six upcoming models based on the Neue Klasse EV-dedicated architecture. These models are slated to debut between 2025 and 2027, with the first two being a sedan and an SUV with a footprint akin to the current 3-Series / X3. The new platform promises high-performance electric motors, improved battery efficiency, a new UX/UI concept, and a strong focus on sustainability.
