Zeekr Sees Decline in January Deliveries Due to Plant Upgrade

Zeekr, the electric vehicle company owned by Geely, saw a decline in its January deliveries, totaling 3,116 units. This represents a decrease of 11.73% compared to the previous year’s 3,530 units and a sharp drop of 72.51% from the 11,337 units delivered in December. The company attributed the decline to its decision to shut down production lines for an upgrade just before the Chinese New Year holiday.

The plant was closed for 21 days, from January 21 to February 1, and has now resumed operations. Zeekr aims to prepare for the production of new models and improve its capabilities with the recent upgrade. To date, Zeekr has cumulatively delivered 81,064 units since its establishment as a separate company in March 2021, with its flagship model, Zeekr 001, launched on April 15, 2021 and deliveries starting in October of that year.

On November 1, 2022, Zeekr unveiled its second electric vehicle model, the Zeekr 009 MPV. Deliveries of this new model began in January 2023, and according to the company, the average order amount was RMB 527,000 ($49,800).

In a recent internal letter, Zeekr CEO Andy An announced the company’s first objective for 2023, which is to double its deliveries to 140,000 units. To achieve this goal, Zeekr is preparing to launch two new models in the coming year.

Recently, Zeekr teased its third electric vehicle model  indicating their intention to make it a classic, similar to the Tesla Model 3. The Zeekr 001 and Zeekr 009 are produced at the company’s plant in Ningbo, Zhejiang. However, the third model will be manufactured at one of Geely’s plants in Chengdu, Sichuan province, as per a source close to the matter.
