Chinese electric vehicle maker Zeekr plans to relaunch its presence in Indonesia at the Indonesia International Motor Show in 2026, introducing two battery-electric models as it seeks to expand in Southeast Asia’s largest automotive market.

The company intends to begin sales of the Zeekr 7X sport utility vehicle and the Zeekr 009 luxury multipurpose vehicle while building its own retail and service network rather than relying solely on third-party distributors. Alex Bao, managing director of Zeekr Southeast Asia, said the automaker aims to open up to 20 showrooms nationwide by 2027, with about half scheduled to launch this year.

Zeekr previously entered Indonesia in late 2024 through a partnership with Premium Auto Prima, offering fully imported vehicles at relatively high prices. The models launched at the time included the X crossover and the 009, starting at around 1.1 billion rupiah and 2.25 billion rupiah respectively. Industry representatives said pricing limited broader market traction despite early customer interest.

To improve affordability, Zeekr now plans to import vehicles as knocked-down kits for local assembly rather than as fully built units. Assembly will be handled by Handal Indonesia Motor at its facility in Purwakarta, West Java, which also produces models for sister brand Geely. The approach is expected to reduce import costs and enable more competitive pricing.

The company has begun accepting pre-orders for the 7X and 009, although customer deliveries are expected only in the third or fourth quarter of 2026 due to preparations for local production. Zeekr estimates the 7X will be priced below 1.1 billion rupiah and the 009 below 1.6 billion rupiah, positioning them more competitively in Indonesia’s premium EV segment.

Zeekr also plans to expand beyond Southeast Asia, targeting several European markets later in 2026, including the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. The brand currently operates in more than 35 markets worldwide as part of a broader global expansion strategy.
