Pelican, the Yutong UY dealer, has completed delivery of an additional 41 zero-emission vehicles to McGill’s Bus Group. This marks the second tranche of vehicles and increases the Yutong fleet in McGill’s to 96 vehicles, following the delivery of 55 vehicles prior to COP 26 in November 2021. The Scottish Government’s SCOTZEB scheme funded these vehicles, which took less than 12 months from order to delivery.
It is worth noting that Yutong secured first place in the European electric bus market for 2022. Ian Downie, Head of Yutong UK, remarked that “these deliveries are a very important milestone for Pelican and Yutong.” One of the delivered vehicles, SG23OSM, is the 134,000th zero-emission vehicle that Yutong has produced, and this contract takes Pelican to over 250 delivered zero-emission vehicles in the UK. Yutong’s product is known for being tried, tested, and reliable, thriving in Scotland’s operating conditions regardless of the weather.

“We are delighted to have worked with McGill’s to be in the vanguard of delivering a sustainable passenger transport solution for the West of Scotland population,” said Ian Downie. “The customer-centric specification that McGill’s has developed will ensure that more passengers will enjoy quiet, air-conditioned journeys while encouraging modal shift onto public transport.”
Ralph Roberts, CEO of McGill’s, praised Pelican and Yutong for being the perfect delivery partners in their journey to net zero. “When we were researching our options at the beginning, the Yutong product stood out head and shoulders above the rest,” he said. “This milestone of 134,000 zero-emission vehicles lets everyone understand why – there is real strength in depth in the product. We are very happy with the product, with the service delivery, and with the relationships.”
