Chinese bus manufacturer Yutong has commenced series production of its next-generation electric double-decker, the U12DD, marking a significant step in advancing safety, durability, energy efficiency, passenger comfort, and intelligent functionalities in new energy buses.
The first U12DD rolled off the production line in Zhengzhou, China. Li Jia, Deputy CTO of Yutong High-End and International Engineering, noted that the U12DD launch represents more than a product upgradeāit embodies Yutongās strategic vision to lead in the high-end segment of new energy buses. Kent Chang, CEO of Yutong Asia-Pacific, added, āThis model achieves comprehensive breakthroughs in safety, range, durability and intelligent management, demonstrating Yutongās profound commitment to green mobility solutions.ā

At 12 metres in length, the U12DD features a three-door layout with two staircases and can accommodate up to 120 passengers. Powered by a robust 621 kWh battery, the bus offers an impressive range of up to 670 kilometres. It supports EU-compliant dual-gun charging at up to 350 kW, enabling a full charge in roughly two hours. The bus is equipped with Yutongās Link+ fleet management system and an intelligent cockpit for remote monitoring, precise scheduling, and smart operations.
The U12DD is aimed at meeting diverse urban transport needs, including demanding environments characterized by high temperatures, humidity, and intensive usage. Yutong plans to introduce the revised model in Singapore, where over 1,000 Yutong buses are currently in service, further solidifying its global presence.

Yutongās international expansion continues to grow, with around 110,000 buses exported worldwide and approximately 200,000 new energy buses manufactured to date. The U12DD joins the companyās expanding portfolio of electric vehicles tailored for global markets, including the UK, where double-deckers are widely used and where operators such as First Bus have already ordered the sister model, U11DD. A sightseeing variant of the U12DD will also be available.
